Sustainability

This section of the 21 Elements website provides information on various sustainability elements.  While sustainability is often considered in the context of environmental policy, in reality it relates to multiple areas – housing, land-use, health, transportation, and energy.  To facilitate the development of local plan and policies addressing these sustainability elements, an assortment of research and information on policies, programs, and best practices is provided for your use.  Where available, 21 Elements uses materials developed by ABAG or others.  When these resources are not sufficient, 21 Elements has developed custom material.

Additionally, special attention is devoted to Senate Bill 375, which aims to reduce transportation-related green house gas emissions by creating a sustainable communities strategy – a regional plan integrating housing, land-use and transportation planning to achieve specified emission reduction targets for automobiles and light trucks.  Resources and information on the SB 375 process and the subsequent round of the regional housing needs allocation are listed below.
