Other requirements
  • Detached ADUs may require a Coastal Development Permit if located within the City’s Resource Protection Zone boundary.
  • Only one ADU per property is allowed.
  • A deed restriction called a Certificate of Compliance must be recorded after ADU construction and before occupancy.
  • ADUs must comply with all requirements of the underlying zoning district.
Process

A planning application is required. Making an appointment to meet with a planner in the initial stages of the project can help avoid challenges and is highly recommended.
